Listen to the frogs! The charming children's story Rainfrog encompasses the first meeting between an imaginative little girl and a tiny rainforest tree frog. A bond forms between the two, and when they are later separated, their attempts to find each other again are heartwarming. This tender and innocent story leaves readers wondering what will happen next. While vacationing in Puerto Rico, author Suzanne Gene Courtney heard the tiny tree frogs, called coquies, flood the night air with a constant high-pitched song that kept her awake her first night there. On subsequent nights, the frogs' singing lulled her to sleep, and this story was born. "I learned more about the coqui tree frog after reading a National Geographic article about them," she said. "It was extremely interesting, and I incorporated some of this knowledge into the writing of Rainfrog." Suzanne Gene Courtney is an elementary school teacher in Monroe, Michigan. In May, 2012 Beautiful Books gave Rainfrog 3.5 stars out of 5. Rainfrog is a sweet story of father and daughter, a tale that will help teach your child about loving the Earth, and an assertion of childhood creativity. I am so glad that this author has begun the journey of authorship and hope she continues. What this book lacks though is overall polish.
If your child is going through a "frog" phase, he or she will love this book. Suzanne Gene Courtney is an author you will want to watch as she perfects her craft.

Tearfully, she says goodbye, promising the little frog she will come back to look for him soon. Will she find him? Will they be able to play together once again? Rainfrog by Suzanne Gene Courtney is the heartwarming story of a young girl and a tiny coqui frog. This book has beautiful color-pencil illustrations and a beautifully flowing story. I loved how the author takes the reader deep into the rainforest and educates the reader about the coqui frog and its habitat. This is the second book I have read from this author, and again I am very pleased with the engaging story and illustrations. The author does such a fantastic job of weaving interesting stories with educational facts. This story does more than educates the reader; it teaches respect for wildlife and its habitats. I would highly recommend this book to children who want to know more about the coqui frog and are interested in learning more about the rainforest.
